Landscaping sounds like a lot of work, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Achieving that picture-perfect landscape can be low maintenance landscaping project. If you want your area to look excellent and well-kept, you’ve come to the right place. Here are some ways on how you can maintain your landscape with minimal effort and time.

Know your plants

There are diverse types of plants to choose from, like colorful flowers to evergreen shrubs. In another world, you can have it all. But realistically, you have to consider a lot of things first. Know the different types which will be appropriate to your needs and abilities. For low maintenance landscaping, choose plants that don’t require much of your care and attention. There are tons to choose from, like dwarf conifers, barberry, and dwarf globe spruce. They grow well on their own without pruning. What’s best is, they’re disease- and animal-resistant. A relatively carefree landscape will leave you satisfied with more time left for another task.

Back to the roots

If you’re looking for less work, opting for these plants will be right for you. Compared to plants brought by foreign settlers, they require less from you in terms of water, fertilizer, and pesticides.

Cover up

Patio pavers and garden paths can make your area looking simple yet elegant. What’s more, is that the area they cover will reduce your landscaping chores. They’re perfect for people who want low maintenance landscaping. Of course, you may want to sweep/clean it occasionally. To reap its benefits, choose materials and designs to allow a natural water source to permeate through the soil. It will help in the watering needs of your plans and prevent runoff.

Fake it ’til you make it

Who says landscaping has to be all-natural? Sure, plants add beauty to your landscape, but they can be finicky. For your low maintenance landscaping needs, you can count on artificial plants. For landscapers who have kids and pets who love to run around and tear up grass, this is the answer. With the advancement of technology, artificial grass now comes in various heights and color gradations. They can look and feel like the real thing without the much-needed tending that natural grass thrives in.

Use pots

Incorporate potted plants into your landscape. They’re low maintenance landscaping materials, plus they add color to your yard. Compared to their planted counterpart, you can quickly move them whenever the occasion calls for it. If you’re having a party, they can easily be transported and moved back after. You can express your artistic side by choosing different pots and coordinating them according to your taste.

You can also raise your potted plants to maximize your space. They give charm to your landscape with little effort needed from you. You should be mindful of what plants you’re potting and be on the lookout when your transplanting plants into a larger pot.

Automate is your best mate.

For a forgetful landscaper, keeping to your watering routine can be challenging. That is why automate is your best mate. Install an irrigation system that will do your job for you. You may have to spend more, but it will be money well-spent. Just set up the timer based on your plant’s needs, and you can go on with your day. Plants can live independently as long as they get their water needs, where automation comes into place.

Mulch, Mulch, Mulch!

Weeding can be tedious, especially for someone who’s looking for low maintenance landscaping. Mulch breaks down, fertilizing your plants while keeping weeds at bay, and no need for mowing or watering. You only have to replace them occasionally, plus they’re inexpensive. And to top it up, they provide a pleasant aroma in your yard.

Earthworms are your friend.

It may seem tempting to turn the soil often to promote growth in plants. But doing can take too much time and may even cause more negative effects than good ones. It can lead to the exposure of weed seeds, wreaking more havoc on your plants. You can turn to those little slimy creatures to do your work in cultivating your soil. Landscaping does not need to be intimidating or expensive. You have to plan well and stick to those who will make your job easier. Gardeners do not need to be ashamed of wanting it to be easy. A well-kept and organized landscape does not always equate to laborious tasks. Low maintenance landscaping is possible and much doable.
